The AP reports that  3,300-foot column of steam rising from the Pacific Ocean near Iwo Jima is due to an underwater volcano. The ocean water around the site was turning red, the reports say, and the sea is bubbling.

Ah, once again failure of imagination leads to certain destruction...

Now, call me crazy if you will, but last time I checked these were all certain signs that Godzilla was rising from the sea, preparing to trample Japan, burn buildings and kick some Rodan butt or something.

Volcanos. Yeah, sure. Dude, someone better fire up those spy satellites and start searching the jungles for large heat signatures - there's bound to be a big ol' ape out there somewhere, and when that fight gets started, hey man you better watch out.

(Oh and by the way, the new King Kong movie that's set to come out late this year looks pretty darned awesome)

Update: Looks like Paul Lee Adams sees the truth in the situation, too. Glad to know I'm not completely crazy.
